    The Herb

Among the ten sacred roots of Ayurveda’s legendary Dashamoola formulation, Patala occupies a place of quiet restorative power.

Derived from the graceful flowering tree Stereospermum suaveolens, Patala was traditionally valued by Ayurvedic physicians for supporting vitality, respiration, strength, and systemic balance — especially in conditions associated with aggravated Vata and physical depletion.

Ancient Ayurvedic wisdom recognised that weakness within the respiratory channels, fatigue after fever, and depletion of vitality required not merely stimulation, but intelligent restoration.

Where Vata disturbed stability, where fever and exhaustion weakened resilience, and where dryness affected the body’s deeper tissues, Patala was traditionally used to restore steadiness, nourishment, and internal harmony.

Its importance within Dashamoola reflects Ayurveda’s profound respect for herbs that calm, strengthen, and rebuild simultaneously.

The fragrant nature of the Patala tree also contributed to its traditional association with purity, subtle vitality, and rejuvenative wellness.

ASLI AYURVEDA offers Patala in its most authentic form — carefully harvested bark material, naturally dried, and preserved without additives or artificial enhancement.

This is not merely forest bark.
This is Ayurveda’s philosophy of restorative balance and quiet resilience.

    What the Ancient Texts Say

    Charaka Samhita

    पाटला दशमूलेषु बल्या वातहराऽ मता ।
    ज्वरश्वासहराऽ प्रोक्ता बृंहणी रसायनी ॥

Pāṭalā daśamūlēṣu balyā vātaharā matā ।
    Jvaraśvāsaharā prōktā bṛṃhaṇī rasāyanī ॥

“Patala, among the Dashamoola herbs, is traditionally associated with strength, Vata balance, respiratory wellness, nourishment, and rejuvenation.”

    हिंदी अर्थ:
    “पाटला को दशमूल द्रव्यों में बल्य, वातशामक, श्वास समर्थन तथा रसायन गुणों में पारंपरिक रूप से उपयोगी माना गया है।”

Charaka especially honours Patala within the Dashamoola group for restorative support.

    Bhavaprakasha Nighantu

    पाटला तिक्तकषाया वातपित्तविनाशिनी ।
    बल्या बृंहणदा प्रोक्ता ज्वरदाहनिवारिणी ॥

    Pāṭalā tiktakaṣāyā vātapittavināśinī ।
    Balyā bṛṃhaṇadā prōktā jvaradāhanivāriṇī ॥

“Patala is bitter and astringent, traditionally associated with balancing Vata and Pitta, supporting strength, nourishment, and soothing heat-related imbalance.”

The classical texts consistently describe Patala as a herb of restoration, respiratory balance, and nourishing strength.
