The Herb
Among Ayurveda’s most powerful household herbs, Lashuna occupies a place of extraordinary respect.
Sharp in aroma, penetrating in action, and deeply warming in nature, garlic was regarded by ancient Ayurvedic physicians as a herb capable of restoring movement where stagnation had settled — in digestion, circulation, respiration, joints, and vitality itself.
Its Sanskrit name Rasona carries profound symbolism. Classical commentators describe it as the herb possessing nearly all tastes except sourness — making it unusually multidimensional in action and uniquely capable of influencing multiple bodily systems simultaneously.
Where Vata created dryness, stiffness, weakness, and degeneration, and where Kapha caused heaviness, congestion, and sluggish metabolism, Lashuna was traditionally used to restore warmth, movement, and resilience.
Though intensely practical in Ayurvedic medicine, Lashuna was never regarded as ordinary food alone. It was recognised as a potent Rasayana when used correctly — especially in formulations associated with ageing, strength, digestion, and endurance.
ASLI AYURVEDA offers Lashuna in its most authentic form — traditionally cultivated bulbs, naturally cured, and preserved without additives or artificial enhancement.
This is not merely garlic.
This is Ayurveda’s philosophy of warmth, movement, and vital force.
What the Ancient Texts Say
Charaka Samhita
लशुनो बल्यवृष्योऽग्न्यो वातकफविनाशनः ।
दीपनः पाचनः प्रोक्तो रसायनवरः स्मृतः ॥
Laśunō balyavṛṣyō'gnyō vātakaphavināśanaḥ ।
Dīpanaḥ pācanaḥ prōktō rasāyanavaraḥ smṛtaḥ ॥
“Lashuna is strengthening, warming, and traditionally associated with balancing Vata and Kapha, supporting digestion, and functioning as a Rasayana.”
हिंदी अर्थ:
“लशुन को बलवर्धक, अग्निदीपक तथा वात-कफ शमन करने वाला माना गया है। यह पाचन और रसायन गुणों में पारंपरिक रूप से उपयोगी माना गया है।”
Charaka especially honours Lashuna for its strengthening and rejuvenative qualities.
Bhavaprakasha Nighantu
रसोनो कटुकः स्निग्धो दीपनो वातनाशनः ।
कफघ्नो बलदः प्रोक्तो कृमिशूलविनाशनः ॥
Rasōnō kaṭukaḥ snigdhō dīpanō vātanāśanaḥ ।
Kaphaghnō baladaḥ prōktō kṛmiśūlavināśanaḥ ॥
“Rasona (Lashuna) is pungent and unctuous, traditionally associated with digestive activation, balancing Vata and Kapha, and promoting strength.”
The classical texts consistently describe Lashuna as a herb of warmth, movement, and restorative vitality.
