Short Luxury Description

(Hero section | above-the-fold)

Charaka named only four supreme Medhya Rasayanas — the herbs that rejuvenate the intellect itself. Yashtimadhu, the "sweet stick" of Ayurveda, is one of them. Cooling, sweet, deeply soothing, and Yogavahi (the carrier of other herbs into the tissues), her root has been Ayurveda's foundational sweet root for the throat, the breath, the gut, the eyes, the complexion, and the mind. ASLI AYURVEDA offers her as a finely milled Churna in its most authentic, unadulterated form. Grown on traditional soil. Milled under the spell of Vedic chants. Pure as the tradition that revered her.

Full Description

(Product description body)

The "Sweet Stick" of Ayurveda

Her Sanskrit name says it: Yashti (a stick) + Madhu (sweet) — "the sweet stick." For Yashtimadhu's root is naturally and remarkably sweet (her glycyrrhizin is 30–50 times sweeter than sugar) — the foundational sweetness of Ayurveda's pharmacy. But Yashtimadhu is far more than a sweetener: Charaka named her among his four supreme Medhya Rasayanas — alongside Mandukaparni, Guduchi, and Shankhapushpi — placing her in the elite category of intellect-rejuvenative herbs.

Sweet in rasa, heavy and unctuous in guna, cooling in virya, and sweet in vipaka — Yashtimadhu's profile is the textbook signature of deep, cooling, building, Pitta-Vata-pacifying nourishment. She is Yogavahi — the carrier — meaning she draws other herbs deeper into the tissues; Kanthya — the voice-supporting; Chakshushya — the eye-supporting; Varnya — the complexion-enhancing; Vrishya — the vitality-supporting; Stanyavardhini — the lactation-promoting. Her reach is among the widest of any single herb in the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia.

Modern science has documented her glycyrrhizin and glycyrrhetinic acid as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, hepatoprotective, mucoprotective (the basis of her classical ulcer-and-throat use), and broadly tonic. One safety note: glycyrrhizin in very high regular doses can cause pseudoaldosteronism (mineralocorticoid-like effects: fluid retention, raised blood pressure, low potassium). At normal Ayurvedic-Churna amounts and durations, Yashtimadhu is broadly safe; but those with hypertension or on related medication should use her in moderation.

Why the Churna Form?

Charaka specifically prescribed Yashtimadhu as Churna with milk — the most classical preparation

Usage Rituals

The Classical Method — Charaka's Yashtimadhu Medhya Milk Stir ½ teaspoon of Yashtimadhu Powder into a cup of warm milk (or plant milk) — Charaka's own prescription for the Medhya Rasayana ritual. Optionally with a touch of saffron or cardamom. Take in the morning or evening for memory, calm, and cooling nourishment.

The Throat Ritual Stir ¼ to ½ teaspoon into warm water with a teaspoon of honey (added after slight cooling), or chew a small pinch directly — the classical Kanthya ritual for the throat and voice.

The Medhya Blend Combine Yashtimadhu with Mandukaparni, Shankhapushpi, and Guduchi — all four of Charaka's Medhya Rasayanas — in warm milk for the supreme classical Medhya blend.

The Yogavahi Ritual Add a pinch of Yashtimadhu to other classical preparations (Triphala, Trikatu, Sitopaladi) — her Yogavahi nature enhances their absorption and softens their action.

Year-round Medhya ritual: Suitable for sustained measured use as a Rasayana.

All seasons for the throat: Especially valued for seasonal cough, dryness, and irritated throat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We process in small, curated batches. Each pouch carries a processing date and best-before date. The tamper-evident outer seal and heat-sealed inner barrier maintain freshness from our facility to your ritual space.

  • No. One ingredient: the powdered root of Glycyrrhiza glabra. The Power of Pure is not a marketing phrase at ASLI AYURVEDA — it is a manufacturing commitment.

  • Sourced from traditionally grown land practising natural cultivation without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, processed within our Z Gold Certified Greenroom Infrastructure. Batch-wise quality reports are accessible via the QR code on your pouch.

  • Yes — Yashtimadhu has gentle, beloved traditional use for children's cough, throat, and digestion, in measured amounts with honey or in milk. The cautions about prolonged high-dose use apply most to adults; in small traditional amounts in food and remedies, Yashtimadhu is broadly safe for children.

  • Yashtimadhu may interact with: diuretics, blood-pressure medications, corticosteroids, digoxin, ACE inhibitors, oral contraceptives, MAOIs, and anticoagulants. If you take any prescription medication and intend regular daily use, consult your physician. ASLI AYURVEDA products are wellness foods in the classical tradition — not pharmaceutical replacements.

  •  Yashtimadhu's classical Kanthya (voice-and-throat-supporting) reputation is supported by her cooling, sweet, unctuous, mucoprotective nature. Modern research confirms her mucosa-soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral actions on the throat and respiratory tract. The classical practice of chewing or sipping Yashtimadhu for sore throat is genuinely effective.

  • Classical synergies: Mandukaparni, Shankhapushpi, and Guduchi (all four of Charaka's Medhya Rasayanas together); Pippali for the breath; Vasa for the throat; Shatavari for women's wellness; Triphala for the gut; and Yashtimadhu serves as Yogavahi in countless classical formulations.

  • Freshness is best preserved away from air, light, and moisture. Our resealable barrier pouch and amber inner liner limit oxidation. Reseal fully after each use and keep the scoop dry.

  • In a cool, dry sanctuary away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Seal the pouch immediately after each use. Stored correctly, the powder retains full potency for 24 months from the date of processing.

  • Best in moderation. Small amounts of Yashtimadhu in food and chai are traditional, but concentrated daily use during pregnancy is best avoided without guidance (because of the glycyrrhizin/blood-pressure concerns). Consult your gynaecologist and a qualified Ayurvedic physician.

  • Yes, one worth knowing. Yashtimadhu's glycyrrhizin in very high regular doses (gram amounts daily, sustained for weeks or months) can cause pseudoaldosteronism — mineralocorticoid-like effects including fluid retention, raised blood pressure, and low potassium. At normal Ayurvedic-Churna amounts (¼ to ½ teaspoon, used in cycles), this is not generally a concern. But those with hypertension, kidney disease, or heart conditions, those on related medications, and pregnant women should use Yashtimadhu in moderation and under guidance.

  • Yes. One ingredient: the powdered root of Glycyrrhiza glabra. 100% plant-based, suitable for vegans, naturally gluten-free. (The classical milk ritual uses milk — use plant milk if you prefer.) Our facility maintains strict segregation protocols.

  • Yashtimadhu is especially balancing for Pitta (her cooling, soothing nature) and Vata (her sweet, unctuous, building nature). Being heavy and unctuous, she may increase Kapha in excess, so Kapha types should use her in moderation.

  • A 100% whole-root powder — the classical Churna form. Nothing added, nothing extracted. Standardised glycyrrhizin extracts and DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) isolate and modify compounds; classical Ayurveda used the whole root, as does ASLI AYURVEDA.

  • For general wellness, ¼ to ½ teaspoon (about 1–3 grams) daily, in warm milk or water. For specific therapeutic use, consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

  • To a fine, even, lightly fragrant Churna that disperses into milk and water. We mill the dried root and stolon in controlled conditions.

  • Yogavahi means "carrier of yoga" — the ability of a herb to enhance and carry the actions of other herbs deeper into the tissues. Yashtimadhu is one of Ayurveda's foremost Yogavahis: she softens and amplifies the actions of formulations she joins. This is why she appears in so many classical multi-herb preparations.

  • The most classical method (Charaka's own) is in warm milk for memory and Rasayana. It also blends into warm water with honey for the throat, into chai, and into countless classical formulations as a Yogavahi (carrier).

  • Yes — in Charaka Chikitsa 1.3, the Acharya named only four herbs as supreme Medhya Rasayanas: Mandukaparni, Yashtimadhu, Guduchi, and Shankhapushpi. Yashtimadhu's place in this elite group makes her one of the most highly regarded brain-and-tissue tonics in the entire Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia. (Shankhapushpi was further named "the foremost of foremost.")

  • Naturally and remarkably sweet — far sweeter than sugar (the glycyrrhizin is 30–50 times sweeter than sucrose). The classical "Madhuyashti" — "sweet stick" — name says it precisely.
