Classical Sanskrit References

Three verses from the Brihattrayi — the three great texts of Ayurveda — each with full source citation.

Reference 1 — Charaka Samhita

Chikitsa Sthana | Chapter 1 | Verse 75

अश्वगन्धा बलापुष्टिशुक्रोजः क्षयनाशिनी ।

वायुश्लेष्महरा स्वादुपाकातिक्तोष्णकारिणी ॥

Ashwagandhā balāpuṣṭiśukrojaḥ kṣayanāśinī | Vāyuśleṣmaharā svādupākātiktoṣṇakāriṇī ||

“Ashwagandha bestows strength, nourishment, and vital essence, and destroys wasting. It pacifies Vata and Kapha, carries a sweet post-digestive effect, is bitter in taste, and generates warmth.”

  • Charaka — the father of Ayurvedic medicine — named Ashwagandha as the herb that rebuilds what stress and time deplete

  • Not a modern wellness claim, but a 2,000-year-old observation in Ayurveda’s most respected text

  • In Churna form, dissolved into warm milk (Ksheerpaka), these properties reach their most bioavailable expression

Reference 2 — Ashtanga Hridayam

Uttara Sthana | Chapter 39 | Verse 160 | Composed by Vagbhata, 7th century CE

अश्वगन्धा हयगन्धा च वाजिनामिव गन्धतः ।

बलदा पुष्टिदा वृष्या रसायनगणे स्मृता ॥

Ashwagandhā hayagandhā ca vājinām iva gandhataḥ | Baladā puṣṭidā vṛṣyā rasāyanagaṇe smṛtā ||

“Named for the scent of a horse, this herb bestows the strength and vitality of a horse. It is strength-giving, nourishing, and aphrodisiac — and is remembered among the Rasayana herbs.”

  • Ashwa (horse) + Gandha (essence) — named for the vitality it bestows, not its aroma alone

  • In Vedic culture, the horse embodied unconquerable endurance and noble strength

  • That same classical promise now lives in every measured teaspoon

Reference 3 — Sushruta Samhita

Sutra Sthana | Chapter 38 | Composed by Acharya Sushruta, circa 6th century BCE

बल्यं बृंहणीयं च स्थिरीकरणमेव च ।

आयुर्वर्धनमश्वगन्धं रसायनमुत्तमम् ॥

Balyaṃ bṛṃhaṇīyaṃ ca sthīrīkaraṇam eva ca | Āyurvardhanam ashvagandhāṃ rasāyanam uttamam ||

“Ashwagandha is strengthening, nourishing, and stabilising. It enhances longevity and is considered a supreme Rasayana.”

  • The three great texts agree: Charaka, Sushruta, and Vagbhata each document Ashwagandha as a Rasayana of the highest order

  • A herb that does not merely soothe symptoms, but rebuilds the foundation of vitality

  • The same root ASLI AYURVEDA mills under the spell of Vedic chants — as the Acharyas would recognise it

Short Luxury Description

For millennia, the sages and warriors of ancient Bharat turned to one root above all others to restore what time and effort deplete. Ashwagandha — the Supreme Rasayana of classical Ayurveda — is offered by ASLI AYURVEDA as a finely milled, whole-root Churna in its most authentic, unadulterated form. Grown in the mineral-rich soils of Rajasthan. Milled under the spell of Vedic chants. Pure as the tradition that created it.

Full Description

The Root the Ancient World Could Not Live Without — Now in Its Purest Daily Form

There are herbs, and then there are Rasayanas — the supreme tier of Ayurvedic botanicals that rebuild the very foundation of human vitality. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) sits at the pinnacle, documented across the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridayam as a herb of extraordinary restorative power.

The name itself is a story: Ashwa (horse) + Gandha (essence) — named after Bharat’s symbol of unconquerable strength, because that is what dedicated use was observed to bestow.

Why the Churna Form?

  • Classical Ayurveda favoured the whole plant, finely milled — not isolated extracts or standardised capsules

  • ASLI AYURVEDA Ashwagandha Root Powder is the complete root, dried at maturity and milled to a ritual-ready texture

  • Dissolves into warm milk, smoothies, and golden milk — nothing isolated, nothing removed

What Classical Ayurveda Tells Us

  • Classified as Balya (strength-giving), Brimhana (nourishing), and Rasayana (rejuvenative)

  • The herb of choice for warriors before battle, scholars seeking clarity, women seeking equilibrium, elders slowing the tide of time

  • Bitter–astringent rasa, warming virya, sweet vipaka — associated with deep nourishment of the nervous system, reproductive tissues, and bone marrow

  • In Tridosha terms: calms aggravated Vata, pacifies excess Kapha, while its warmth supports metabolic transformation

The ASLI AYURVEDA Difference

  • Sourced from traditionally grown farms in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh — regions the classical texts recognised for the finest quality

  • Harvested, milled, and sealed within our Z Gold Certified Greenroom Infrastructure, under Vedic chants at all times

  • No additives, flow agents, anti-caking compounds, preservatives, bleaching, or irradiation

For the Modern Conscious Consumer

  • Stir into warm milk before sleep, blend into a morning smoothie, or take the ancient way with ghee and honey

  • Vegan. Gluten-Free. Non-GMO. Batch-tested for purity. Rooted in a tradition over 5,000 years old

This is not a supplement. This is a Rasayana. And ASLI AYURVEDA is its most authentic custodian.

Usage Rituals

The Classical Method — Ashwagandha Ksheerpaka

Stir ½ teaspoon of Ashwagandha Root Powder into one cup of warm whole milk or full-fat plant milk. Simmer gently on a low flame for 8–10 minutes, allowing the powder to fully dissolve. Remove from heat, cool slightly, and sweeten with raw honey or jaggery (never add honey to boiling liquid, per Ayurvedic wisdom). Consume before sleep. Ksheerpaka is considered by classical Ayurveda the most bioavailable form — the fat in milk enhancing absorption of the root’s active compounds.

Morning Ritual — Ojas Builder

Add ½ teaspoon to a morning smoothie with banana, soaked dates, almond milk, and a pinch of cardamom. This builds Ojas — vital essence — without the Pitta-aggravating stimulation of caffeine. Ideal for Vata and Kapha types.

Golden Milk Ritual

Combine ½ teaspoon Ashwagandha with ¼ teaspoon turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of cinnamon, and warm milk. The fat in the milk and the piperine in black pepper both enhance absorption. A winding-down evening ritual.

Meditation Preparation

Stir ½ teaspoon into warm water with a small quantity of raw honey, 30 minutes before meditation or pranayama. Classical Ayurveda specifically recommended Ashwagandha for sustained contemplative disciplines requiring Pranic steadiness.

Seasonal Wisdom

  • Winter (Hemanta/Shishira Ritu): Peak season — the warming virya counters Vata aggravation from cold. A full teaspoon is appropriate.

  • Monsoon (Varsha Ritu): Combine with a pinch of Pippali to enhance absorption during the damp season.

  • Summer (Grishma Ritu): Reduce to ¼ teaspoon and pair with cooling Shatavari to balance the warming virya.
